So many people have asked us questions about how to use their book better, so we have decided to compile some tips and hints for everyone to use. If you have any tips and are happy to share, please pass them on!
A Book About Me
- You can buy beautiful storage boxes from paper specialists like Kikki K, down to budget versions from Howards Storage World or Officeworks. Keep your book inside this, and you can then drop in photos or notes to update whenever you have time.
- Photo Stickers are a great and easy way to display photos in the book. You don't have to worry about glue buckling the paper.
- I updated my daughter's book on (or as close as possible to) the anniversary of her birthdate. This made it easier to remember.
My School Years
- You can buy beautiful storage boxes from paper specialists like Kikki K, down to budget versions from Howards Storage World or Officeworks. Keep your book inside this, and you can then drop in photos or notes to update whenever you have time.
- My School Years can still be a useful purchase into the later years of school. You still need somewhere to store your school photos, and children have amazing recall of their earlier school years. Try this recall when you are in your thirties. Not so good!
- Completing My School Years in the final week of school, so students have a whole year to look back on and recall highlights. They may also like to jot down reminder notes to store in the pockets.
- Depending on your individual levels of ruthlessness, you may find you need three or so years of separation before you can 'recycle' some certificates or artwork. A swimming participation certificate may be exciting, but perhaps less so when it is one of eight. Just ask yourself, would you like to look back on eight of the same certificates from your early swimming career? The fewer things you keep, the more special they become. Repeat after me "the fewer things you keep, the more special they become."
- Encourage children, especially as they enter high school, to keep the book private, as they may write down memories they would otherwise be too self conscious sharing.
- Remember that this book is for your child to enjoy, so let them have free rein.
